Learn About Sderot

Founded in 1953, Sderot is located less than a mile from the Gaza strip. During the years, Sderot has received thousands of immigrants from Iran, Morocco, Romania, Ethiopia and the former Soviet Union. In 1996 Sderot’s population had reached over 20,000 residents
and it was announced as a city.

Sderot is the main target for daily terror attacks from the Gaza Strip. Over 4,000 rockets were launched to civic areas in recent months. Residents in the city suffer from psychological, educational and financial trauma. In the past few weeks only 30% of the students attended schools and the economy got a devastating hit. Still, many residents insist on staying in the city and show strength in the face of a vicious and shameless terror against civilians.
