Very few believed that the Israeli movie Beaufort would reach the top— a nomination for an Academy Award in the Best Foreign Movie category. However, the Israeli Leadership Council did believe. The organization took a lead in a promotion campaign for the movie. ILC sponsored an ad in a special edition of Variety Magazine dedicated to the Oscars. The campaign continued in a special private screening of the movie, co-hosted by ILC and the Israeli Consulate. ILC members joined key figures in the film industry for a great night filled with hopes. The organization presented Director Josef Cedar with an award acknowledging his achievement. Our wishes came true. It was great to learn that ILC had an active role in the exciting nomination of Beaufort for the Academy Award. It was a great achievement for the Israeli film industry. Motion pictures are a great vehicle by which to bridge nations and cultures. This is exactly what the movie Beaufort did by bringing forth the historical story of the Israeli stay and withdrawal from South Lebanon. The Oscars night was an exciting one. In a party co-sponsored by the organization, ILC hosted the movie cast and other Israeli and American movie stars. The Oscar did not make its way to Israel this time but we are sure the Israeli film industry has not said its last word yet.
