1,900 people attended the sold-out “Live For Sderot” concert held at the Wilshire Theater
On February 26th, 2008, the Los Angeles community came together to show its strong support for the city of Sderot and the State of Israel in a successful event sponsored by the ILC and produced by the ILC and the Israeli Consulate. Approximately 1,900 people attended the sold-out "Live For Sderot" concert held at the Wilshire Theater to emphatically say, "No more! The children of Sderot deserve to live in peace." Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and presidential hopefuls, Senators Barak Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John McCain, sent clear messages of support to the city that faces daily rocket attacks. Consul Generals representing countries all around the world, local political and community leaders, and many Hollywood celebrities attended the event, making a statement that they stand with Israel against terror. Among the great artist performances were Ninette, Elijah Kelly and Miri Ben-Ari. National, local and Israeli media covered the event. It was a night of unity as never seen before. The event was also the highlight of a special visit by a delegation of 10 kids from Sderot sponsored by the ILC. The delegation was involved in powerful public diplomacy in Los Angeles schools and enjoyed the great attractions LA has to offer. As promised on that special night, ILC efforts continue and the organization is investing funds and energy to ensure the children of Sderot receive a better education and a chance for a better future.
The fundraising campaign raised a net worth of $300,000 for "ILC Fund for Sderot". The money is dedicated strictly to investments in the educational projects in Sderot. The Israeli Leadership Council will continue to send periodical updates to the Israeli and Jewish communities in Los Angeles that made this project possible.
