Connecting our Children to the Roots - Israel's Best Instructors Teaching Your Child Hebrew at the Comfort of Your Own home
Many Israeli-Americans do not involve their children in Zionist-Jewish education. One reason is caused by a lack of means and facilities, but a more vexing reason points towards a lack of awareness. Not only do parents tend to devalue the importance of this education, but there is a common misconception regarding Jewish institutions as centers for religious rather than cultural awareness. There is the presumption that influences from home and visits to Israel are sufficient for the kids. While many parents agree that their children’s connection to Israel and ability to communicate in Hebrew is of importance, the results they see at home are discouraging. In response, the ILC has developed ILCampus.
ILCampus is a web-based teaching tool which can serve as an alternative to Sunday and Hebrew School centers. In accordance with Israeli Ministry of Education standards, this education system uses asynchronous and synchronous distance learning methods with exceptionally qualified Israeli teachers. Lessons are online and can be done at home, where each student can work at his own pace with the comfort of his own personal computer. The curriculum will focus on Hebrew language studies and Israeli heritage-related subjects through live Hebrew lessons and engaging interactive activities that will draw students into an exciting and enriching educational environment. In addition, children will have access to a large online resource center that can provide them with extensive supplemental information.
The ILC subsidizes and manages ILCampus, making it available to all Israeli-American children between the ages of 5 and 18 residing in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. After completion of the program, children will be prepared to pass Israel’s Matriculation Exams, given in Israel or at Israel’s Consulate General. Beyond this, IL Campus simply encourages a more collaborative, contextual, and active form of learning that makes for a positive and effective learning experience. Although still in the early stages, the ILC’s aggressive campaign aims at expanding investments in this online method of bringing quality education to Israeli-American kids. There are over 30 students already enrolled in the program, with expected significant increase in the near future. Through IL Campus the ILC ensures an enhanced and all encompassing Israeli learning experience for our children.
